Crane Café, Hagerty Hall
Professor Sarah-Grace Heller ( Department of French and Italian) will trace the history of a fashion period often overlooked–the early Middle Ages. With advances in archeology, a richer picture of the period has developed, with texts suggesting avid desires for bright colors, rich fabrics and splendid headgear. Over coffee and cookies, Heller will discuss some of the challenges of analyzing and comparing the fragment remains found in furnished burials, poetic texts, manuscript images and crumbling wall paintings to better understand the deep roots of the modern fashion system.
