Chinese: Communicating in the Culture is a multimedia course that guides the learner from beginning through intermediate levels of Chinese. Delivered on a DVD-ROM, this software teaches students to meet the cultural expectations of Chinese people while communicating with them. Video, audio, and print components teach the learner to function in a number of environments, including a train trip across China and business offices and university campuses in both countries. Designed for self-study, this course can also support language learning at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. Created by Professor Galal Walker of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures and the instructional technology team of WMCC, Chinese: Communicating in the Culture is the first complete computer-based course in Chinese.
