East Asian Humanities

East Asian Humanities, an online course offered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, aims to introduce students to the rich cultural heritage,  and current lifestyles of East Asia, defined in this course as China, Korea, and Japan. Through an overview of political, economic, ecological, artistic, and social issues students learn to perceive points of similarity and difference between the three major cultural traditions of East Asia. Developed by Professor Mark Bender of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, East Asian Humanities contains extensive multimedia materials gathered on site in China, Japan and Korea and was funded by a large grant from the Freeman Foundation.
