Tuning In: A Workshop on Teaching Effective Listening Skills in Language Education

Despite its pivotal role in language learning, listening has traditionally been labeled as "the Cinderella skill in foreign language learning" (Nunan, 2002). Even today, listening is consistently undervalued, leading to underdeveloped methodologies, overlooked challenges, and insufficient assessments. To fill this gap, this 60- minute workshop delves into how to effectively promote listening in the language classroom. In this workshop, you will learn about a) the significance of actively promoting listening competence in the foreign language classroom, b) the components inherent in listening competence, and c) diverse teaching methods effectively facilitating its development.
