Requirements
The World Language Appathon is open to all language majors and minors to:
- Design an interactive language learning app using VR technology with Meta Quest headsets, provided for you by the CLLC!
- Technology/development experience not required for language participants! Use your imagination to create an exciting app with a purposeful learning goal in mind.
- Have a friend in CompSci who would like to work with you? Let us know! If not, we'll pair you with someone.
Join us for this exciting month-long interdisciplinary project! All participants will be awarded a Meta Quest Headset!

You are invited to join the showcase of this hackathon where teams will present their finished protoypes on Friday, November 21st, from 6:00PM-8:00PM in the Barnett Collaboratory.
The World Language Appathon is a collaboration between OHI/O, the Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (CLLC), and the Loann Crane Advanced Language Institute Endowment, bringing together expertise in technology, language education, and interdisciplinary innovation.
- The Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is dedicated to fostering intercultural competence through language learning and global engagement. By leveraging emerging media and technologies, the CLLC provides students and educators with the tools to navigate and communicate effectively in an interconnected world.
- The Loann Crane Advanced Language Institute Endowment supports translation, interpretation, and career-focused language education, empowering students with practical skills that bridge academic learning and professional application.
- OHI/O, The premier hackathon program at Ohio State University, cultivates a thriving tech culture by organizing hands-on events that inspire students to create, collaborate, and solve real-world problems. Through experiential learning opportunities, OHI/O empowers students to develop cutting-edge solutions, including immersive VR experiences like those in this appathon.
Together, these organizations provide a unique platform for students to merge technology with language learning, pushing the boundaries of VR, gaming, and education.
