At home in U.S., 1 in 5 uses foreign language

WASHINGTON — The number of people in the United States who speak a language other than English at home has nearly tripled in the past three decades, far outpacing overall population growth, new U.S. Census Bureau data show. While Spanish remains the most-widely spoken language after English, other languages, particularly those from southern Asia and Africa, also have soared in use, the Census Bureau said in a report.
