Sandhya Shanker is an Education Program Senior Specialist at the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CLLC). Her work focuses on advancing intercultural competence across campus and local high schools and promoting experiential learning initiatives that prepare undergraduate language students for future careers.
Sandhya oversees key experiential opportunities for language students, including the Advanced Language Institute internship, where undergraduates teach world languages to middle schoolers at the Global Citizen Summer Camp. Additionally, she manages an internship program funded through the Mellon Foundation specifically for language majors and minors. She also coordinates the Collaborative Articulation Assessment Program (CAAP), an early assessment initiative for high school language learners. CAAP provides free Practice Tests in French, German, Spanish, and Chinese across all four skills.
Previously, Sandhya served as Fixed-term Faculty member in the Teacher Preparation Program (College of Education) at Michigan State University where she taught courses for teacher candidates working to get their certifications to teach world languages in the K-12 system. Sandhya has also served as Director of the Community Language School at Michigan State University where she developed and supervised language programs as well as language and culture events for the larger community serving preschoolers to adults.
