Program Description

The field of second language studies examines how second/foreign languages are learned and used from linguistic, psychological, and socio-cultural standpoints.

This GIS in second language studies offers graduate students the opportunity to enhance their professional experience by providing them with a theoretical and practical background in the important and rapidly growing field of second language studies.

The goals of the GIS in second language studies are:

  • To help students to gain hands-on experience in research design and data collection

  • Design language programs and course materials informed by theory and research in second language acquisition

  • Enable students to be more competitive on the job market for positions that involve language program direction/coordination and GTA training

Graduate students enrolled in GIS in second language studies will work with faculty from a number of different academic units across the campus.
