There are a variety of scholarships available to students from several sources. The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers the NSEP Boren Scholarships to students who wish study a wide range of languages from world regions critical to U.S. interests, including Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Swahili. Boren Awards are available to students of all proficiency levels who are committed to enhancing their skills. The Huntington Scholarship supports students majoring in the humanities with interest and supporting work in international business and trade who wish to spend extended time abroad to enhance their language skills, their knowledge of the target culture, and their understanding of the workings and environment of international commerce.
The Advanced Language Institute, funded by the Loann Crane endowment, provides scholarships for students with intermediate/advanced language skills who wish to study abroad in order to develop fluency or who wish to do an internship or service learning experience in the target language. Additional scholarships are offered through the Office of International Affairs and the College of Arts and Sciences, and the links are provided here. Note that World Language Departments may also have scholarships, so be sure to identify the offerings in your department of study as well. Students are encouraged to apply widely.
