The World Language Filmathon is a collaborative, project-based learning experience in which students work in teams to conceptualize, produce, and present short films in a target language.

The event aims to:

• Provide students with hands-on experience in creative storytelling and basic film production and video editing
• Strengthen language proficiency through applied, real-world use of the target language
• Develop students’ intercultural competence and creative expression
• Offer students an opportunity to showcase their work in a public presentation setting and learn from a two-time Emmy winning film professional
• Participants are guided through the fundamentals of filmmaking, including narrative development, scripting, filming, and editing, culminating in the creation of an original short film.

Win Prizes:

Teams will also have the opportunity to compete for exciting film equipment prize bundles. The first-place team will receive film tools valued at approximately $500 per participant, second place approximately $300 per participant, third place approximately $250 per participant, and all remaining teams that successfully complete the competition will receive a tripod valued at approximately $100 per participant.
